![]() I wasn't successfully able to wear my beard until I was 27 years old. Now, if you really want to grow any facial hair, don't be discouraged by this bad first try. And trust me- women like a man with firm, smooth skin no matter how manly he is. These lotions are designed to soothe any sore or burned skin and also have other ingredients in them that make your skin look the best. I always apply either an after-shave lotion or, at the very least, some lotion with aloe vera in it. Usually the blood in your face clots up pretty well, which is why you'll see guys with pieces of toilet tissue on their face- that's really all you need and only for a few minutes. If you start to see blood, treat it like any other wound- rinse it with warm, soapy water and apply pressure until the bleeding stops. To my rather limited medical knowledge, nothing major runs through the face. If you do happen to cut yourself while shaving- don't panic. ![]() This will close up your pores and help prevent further acne. Once that is done, give yourself a quick spritz on the area with the coldest water you can bear. With your fingers, feel for any spots you may have missed or that are uneven and fix them appropriately. Once you feel you have gotten everything, wipe off any remaining shave gel or cream with a towel. Now, after you shave is just as important. If you are one of those unfortunate people, use the very back blades of your razor to get them. Occasionally you get some feisty hairs right near the little connector between your nostrils. Actually it's all downward- smooth downward strokes with light pressure. The rest of the 'stache is fairly straight forward. Shave upwards like this until your just inside the edges of your lip line. You don't really need to apply too much force at all to get a clean shave. All of your strokes should be smooth and steady. Start by swiping up with the razor blade. I say not so for the edges of your mustache. In general, you want to shave with the grain of the hair- that is, in the direction the hair is growing. The mustache portion is a bit different from the rest of your face. This just makes the mechanics of shaving a bit easier. It's okay- I'll address that later.Īs you shave, your gonna want extend your upper lip over the top of your teeth to expose as much skin as possible. For some reason that area is just a bit more sensitive. I'm gonna warn you- shaving my upper lip has never been anything short of a little painful. You want enough to cover the base of what you have and little more. ![]() Amount is the name of the game here- too much and risk having to rake at your face, too little and razor burn starts to become an issue. This does two things: it opens up the pores on your face (which makes for a cleaner shave) and it relaxes the muscles (which helps prevent things like razor burn). Now, splash some warm water on your face (you can do just the area your going to shave, but a nice spritz of warm water just feels good on the face). If you have any whiteheads, pot them first and make sure they stop oozing before going on. If not, do your best with a pair of scissors. Trim it first with some clippers if you can. As a general rule, you don't want to go after anything longer than, say, 1/4 of an inch with a razor. Unless you really scrape at your face like it kicked your dog, you're not gonna ever bleed enough to really have to worry.
